Arval is in exclusive negotiations with Mercedes-Benz Group to acquire Athlon, creating a combined entity with a fleet of close to 2.3 million vehicles. This move would make Arval the European co-leader in full-service vehicle leasing. The integration of operational platforms is expected to generate significant cost synergies and improve overall efficiency. The transaction is projected to have a return on invested capital (ROIC) of 18% and positively impact the Group’s net income by close to 200 million euros in year 3. Completion of the acquisition is anticipated in 2026 pending necessary approvals.
BNP Paribas is strategically developing its profitable platforms by acquiring Athlon to enhance its profitability profile and strengthen its position in key markets. The Group operates in 64 countries with nearly 178,000 employees, offering a range of commercial, personal banking, investment & protection services, and corporate & institutional banking. This acquisition aligns with BNP Paribas’ goal of achieving a CET1 ratio of 13% by end 2027 and contributing to its sustainable future through corporate social responsibility initiatives.
