A user mistakenly sent nearly $50 million in USDt to a scam address in an address poisoning attack, losing 49,999,950 USDt. Address poisoning scams insert look-alike wallet addresses into a victim’s transaction history, leading to the wrong address being copied. The victim initially sent a test transaction to the correct address before the full $50 million was sent to the scammer’s address. Security researcher notes the subtle address similarity that deceived even experienced users. The stolen USDt was swapped for Ether and moved into Tornado Cash. Crypto hacks resulted in $3.4 billion in losses in 2025, driven by a few major breaches targeting major crypto entities. The $1.4 billion hack of Bybit accounted for nearly half of all stolen funds.
