Corn futures rose 4 to 5 1/4 cents on Tuesday, supported by 76 deliveries against December futures. The national average cash corn price climbed to $4.04 1/4. Russia threatened to cut off Ukraine from the sea in response to attacks on Russian-linked vessels. CFTC data showed managed money reducing net short positions to 160,985 contracts. Commercials increased net shorts to 50,863 contracts. EIA data for the week ending November 28 will reveal ethanol production levels. Corn prices closed at $4.38 for December 25, $4.04 1/4 for nearby cash, $4.50 for March 26, and $4.57 1/2 for May 26.
