French video gaming giant Ubisoft had to suspend Rainbow Six Siege’s live services due to hackers giving 2 billion in-game credits to all players. The hackers took control of major online systems, granting players rare items. With each 15,000 credits costing $99.99, players would have spent $13.33 million to get 2 billion points. Ubisoft is currently working on reversing the credits received and conducting quality control tests. The game is being soft-launched with a small number of players for live testing. Ubisoft’s ability to rescind in-game currency transactions is not possible with genuinely decentralized cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ether. Ubisoft has ventured into blockchain gaming by teaming up with Immutable to integrate Web3 games like Might & Magic.
