Huntington National Bank expands into South Carolina with new full-service branches in Charleston and Greenville, part of a plan to launch 55 branches in North and South Carolina. The bank aims to provide personal banking, teller services, and local advice to customers in the region. In May, Huntington opened its first branches in Spartanburg, SC, and Charlotte, NC. In October, the bank agreed to acquire Cadence Bank for $7.4bn, adding over 390 locations in Texas and the southern US. This move is expected to elevate Huntington to a top 10 US bank by size, with pro forma assets of $276bn and deposits of $220bn. Huntington CEO Stephen Steinour mentioned that job cuts are expected at Cadence Bank after the acquisition, though the number of positions to be cut was not disclosed.
