Instagram has launched its first TV app, allowing users to watch Reels on larger screens. The app is currently available on Amazon’s Fire TV platform, with plans to expand to other smart TV systems. This move aims to cater to users increasingly consuming video content on televisions.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri had hinted at a TV app, emphasizing the need to adapt to the shift of social media viewing to living room screens. As Instagram competes with TikTok and YouTube for short-form video attention, Reels has become a central focus with users spending more time on the feature.
The TV app offers personalized Reel recommendations, organized into themed channels like comedy and sports for a curated viewing experience. Tuesday, META closed at $657.15, up 1.49%, and is trading after hours at $657.60, higher by 0.07%, on the NasdaqGS. The launch reflects Instagram’s efforts to engage users on a new platform and compete in the video content space.
