Meta has expanded access to its “Your Algorithm” feature on Instagram, allowing all U.S. users to manually shape their Reels feed. Users can add or remove interest categories within a dedicated control panel, offering more control over recommendations and reducing reliance on AI-driven personalization.

Meta executive Chris Cox says the rollout gives users a more controllable experience, with upgraded technology offering strong influence over recommendation patterns. While the feature provides transparency and user agency, there are potential trade-offs as manual overrides could impact engagement driven by AI-powered recommendations.

The feature is seen by Meta as a reassurance mechanism for users, with the option to refine feeds providing peace of mind even if seldom used. It remains to be seen if Instagram users will actively use the new controls to customize their content. Additionally, users can share their interest selections directly to their Stories for followers to see.

META closed Thursday at $652.71, up 0.40%, trading after hours at $652.16, down 0.08% on the NasdaqGS. The views expressed are of the author and not necessarily Nasdaq, Inc.
