Intel Corp. is in advanced talks to acquire AI chip startup SambaNova Systems for around $1.6 billion. The deal could be finalized next month, with Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan also serving as chairman of SambaNova. Founded in 2017 by Stanford professors, SambaNova designs custom AI chips and was valued at $5 billion in 2021. Despite acquisition talks, SambaNova has other investor interest and may explore alternatives. The potential deal reflects Intel’s push into AI and chip technology.
