Natural gas prices surged to nearly a 3-year high on Friday due to frigid US temperatures boosting heating demand. Forecasts predict significantly colder-than-normal temperatures in the eastern US from December 10-14. US dry gas production and demand were reported at 111.7 bcf/day and 113.3 bcf/day respectively. Higher US electricity output also supported gas prices. Despite record high US nat-gas production, weekly EIA reports show adequate supplies. The number of active US nat-gas drilling rigs fell slightly, but remains near a 2.25-year high.
