Palm Beach Sandal Company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy court protection, citing Jacqueline Kennedy as inspiration for its original sandal in 1964. The filing stated it was under Subchapter V of Chapter 11, allowing small- and mid-sized companies to restructure operations. Assets estimated up to $50,000, liabilities between $1 million and $10 million.

Handmade Palm Beach Sandals use 100% tanned leathers and kidskins, with prices ranging from $95 for girls to $198 for women. Customization options include monograms and embroidered details. The brand also offers apparel and accessories, with over 2,000 pairs in stock and a factory in West Palm Beach.

Other distressed shoe companies in 2025 include Soleplay and Amiga Shoes in the U.S., as well as Swedish brand Eytys filing for bankruptcy. Freebird, a handmade boot specialist, closed 14 store locations after failing to repay debt. Former CEO Jonathan Czaja acquired the brand through his investment firm Freewheel Capital.
