UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) is selling its last South American business, Banmedica, to Patria Investments for $1 billion. This move follows exits from Brazil and Peru since 2022. Banmedica served 1.7 million health insurance members and operated hospitals and medical centers. The company incurred an $8.3 billion loss due to South American exits, with $1.2 billion linked to Banmedica. CEO Stephen Hemsley aims to get the business back on track.
