Zipcar is ending operations in the UK due to new London Congestion Charges for electric vehicles. The company will stop taking new bookings after 2025, causing potential job losses. Zipcar’s losses rose to £11.7m in 2024 with revenue decreasing. The decision aligns with London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s extension of the Congestion Charge to EVs, impacting Zipcar’s electric fleet. Zipcar UK had 71 employees in 2024, down from 92 the previous year. Founded in Massachusetts, Zipcar was acquired by Avis for $500m.
