Alaska Airlines purchases over 100 Boeing jets for expansion, including 105 737 Max 10s and five 787-10 Dreamliners, with plans for international routes. The airline expects FAA certification of Max 10 this year and deliveries in 2027. Alaska aims to grow its fleet to 550 by 2035, up from 413 currently.
The new order includes options for 35 more 737 Max 10s, with 53 new planes and 52 from options exercised by the airline. Alaska’s purchase reflects confidence in Boeing, despite past safety incidents. The Max 10 is set to improve unit costs on high-demand flights and handle congested airports effectively.
Under Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, the manufacturer has improved production rates and quality. Alaska’s fleet chief expressed confidence in Boeing and the Max 10 certification. The Max 10’s shorter range but higher capacity will benefit Alaska on high-demand routes and in congested airports, once FAA approved.
