Amazon is considering a $50 billion investment in OpenAI, which could expand their partnership to include using AI models in Amazon products. The investment could make Amazon the largest contributor to a $100 billion funding round, alongside Nvidia and SoftBank. OpenAI’s high costs have led to seeking investments from tech giants.
The investment would strengthen the relationship between Amazon and OpenAI, a competitor of Amazon-backed Anthropic. Negotiations are led by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. OpenAI is seeking up to $100 billion in new capital and preparing for a potential IPO in late 2026, concerned about Anthropic going public first.
Both Amazon and OpenAI declined to comment on the potential investment. OpenAI is also in talks with SoftBank for a $30 billion investment. Altman is meeting with investors in the Middle East to potentially value the company at $830 billion, highlighting the significant interest in AI technology.
