Amazon has launched a new Alexa.com website, allowing some users to interact with its upgraded AI assistant, Alexa+, through a web browser. This move positions Amazon to compete more closely with AI chatbots like ChatGPT, offering features such as question answering, content generation, and smart home device management.

The browser-based experience is currently limited to Alexa+ users, accessible through a waitlist or select newer devices. With Alexa.com, users can access a chat interface to perform various tasks, expanding the usability of Alexa+ beyond mobile apps and specific Echo devices.

In response to competition from generative AI tools, Amazon has been working to modernize Alexa. Tens of millions of users now have access to Alexa+, with the web interface fulfilling a feature previewed last year. On Tuesday, AMZN stock closed at $240.93, up 3.38%, and is trading after hours at $240.85 on the NasdaqGS.
