American Airlines will maintain spending requirements for elite frequent flyer status in 2027, following Delta and United’s lead. Loyalty perks are now based on spending rather than distance flown. American is adding more perks between status tiers, like food and beverage coupons and free subscriptions. The airline is also investing in new cabins and offering free in-flight Wi-Fi, with updates to credit card partnerships expected later this year.
