Canadian exploration company Apex Critical Metals has secured an exploration permit for the Rift Rare Earth Project in south-eastern Nebraska, US. The permit, granted by the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy and Environment, will allow Apex to begin drilling operations at the site. The project covers approximately 3,500 acres within the Elk Creek Carbonatite Complex.
The Rift Project has a history of significant drilling by previous operators, such as Molycorp and Quantum Rare Earth Developments. Prior exploration efforts at the site have identified wide, high-grade rare earth element mineralized intercepts, including sections with 2.7% and 3.30% rare earth oxides.
With the exploration permit secured, Apex has initiated pre-drilling work and is aiming to start drilling in the first quarter of 2026. The company is currently finalizing logistics, mobilizing contractors, and confirming access routes and drill pad sites. Additionally, Apex is updating its drill targets using historical data and geological assessments.
Apex CEO Sean Charland expressed excitement about the upcoming drilling campaign at the Rift Rare Earth Project, aiming to build upon historical results and establish the project as a premier rare earth venture in North America. In November 2024, Apex also acquired the Bianco Carbonatite Project in north-western Ontario, further expanding its mineral exploration portfolio.
