Equinor’s Empire Offshore Wind has filed a civil suit challenging the U.S. Department of the Interior’s order to suspend the Empire Wind project. The company seeks a preliminary injunction to continue construction. Empire has worked closely with federal authorities since 2017, meeting national security requirements and coordinating with agencies. The project, developed with NYSERDA, will power around 500,000 homes in New York. Over 60% complete, Empire Wind represents a significant investment in U.S. energy infrastructure, creating nearly 4,000 jobs. Despite the suspension order, Empire and its contractors are complying while ensuring health, safety, and environmental protection.
