Network activity on the Ethereum mainnet has exceeded that on layer-2 scaling blockchains, with a recent spike in active addresses nearing 1 million per day. Ethereum currently has around 945,000 daily active addresses, surpassing all layer-2 blockchains. The total value secured across all layer-2s is $45 billion according to L2Beat.
However, this surge in Ethereum network activity may not all be organic users, as security researcher Andrey Sergeenkov attributes part of the spike to address poisoning attacks. Scammers are sending small transactions from wallet addresses that resemble legitimate ones, taking advantage of lower network fees to spam the network.
Regardless of the spurious activity, Ethereum remains the preferred blockchain for on-chain assets, with assets exceeding $400 billion. Ethereum commands a 56% share of stablecoins on-chain and a 66% share of all tokenized real-world assets when layer-2 networks are included. The global market for tokenized assets could surpass $11 trillion by 2030.
