Ford Motor Co. plans to launch eyes-off driving technology on a $30,000 all-electric vehicle in 2028, competing against Tesla, General Motors, and Rivian Automotive. Ford aims to democratize this technology by offering it on a mainstream EV first, defying industry norms.

Ford’s upcoming vehicle with eyes-off technology will be built on the Universal EV platform, supporting a range of vehicles. This system will be available on a roughly $30,000 midsize pickup truck in 2027, marking a shift towards more affordable electric models.

The eyes-off system, referred to as Level 3 driving automation, will utilize sensors and in-house software to lower costs compared to competitors. Ford plans to expand this technology gradually to other vehicles based on customer needs and product readiness.

Ford is set to launch a new AI assistant in early 2026 through phone apps for Ford and Lincoln, with in-vehicle integration in 2027. This assistant will offer unique capabilities tailored to each vehicle, enhancing the customer experience with features like trailer towing confirmation and interior capacity assessments.
