Huhtamaki is increasing its climate ambition by setting more rigorous short-term emission reduction targets in alignment with the Paris Agreement. By 2030, the company aims to reduce Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by over 50% and Scope 3 emissions by 25% compared to 2022 levels. The Science Based Targets initiative has approved Huhtamaki’s near-term science-based emissions reduction targets. The company is committed to setting long-term emissions reduction targets with the SBTi to reach net-zero by 2050. Huhtamaki’s climate action plan includes various decarbonization strategies to reduce emissions across all scopes, emphasizing sustainability and operational efficiency.
In late 2025, Huhtamaki updated its sustainability ambitions to adapt to industry needs, focusing on developing packaging that is recyclable, compostable, or reusable, made from responsibly sourced materials, and reducing waste and water consumption. Sustainability is at the core of the company’s strategy, aiming to become the preferred choice in sustainable packaging solutions. Collaboration with customers and partners is key to deliver sustainable, cost-efficient, and user-friendly solutions. Huhtamaki’s SBTi-validated near-term targets include reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 50.44% and Scope 3 emissions by 25.0% by 2030. The company also commits to no deforestation across primary deforestation-linked commodities by December 31, 2025.
