Orsted received a preliminary injunction from the US District Court, allowing the Revolution Wind project to resume construction after a halt on Dec. 22. Orsted shares rose by 5% on Jan. 13. Daily costs of interruption for Revolution Wind and Sunrise Wind amount to USD 0.7 million and USD 1 million respectively.
The decision is significant as it will enable Revolution Wind to continue construction while the lawsuit challenging federal orders progresses. Morningstar has adjusted Orsted’s fair value estimate to DKK 160 per share from DKK 170 due to heavier investments in the Sunrise Wind project. There is a likelihood above 50% that the suspension of leases for US offshore wind farms will be lifted.
President Donald Trump expressed opposition to windmills during a meeting with oil executives, stating that his administration will not approve windmills. However, he acknowledged the possibility of being forced to do so due to agreements made by the previous administration.
