Shell plc is simplifying its corporate structure by reducing its Executive Committee from nine members to eight. Robin Mooldijk, President of Projects and Technology, will step down after 35 years with the group. This move aims to embed technical expertise directly within its core business lines.
Mooldijk played a central role in reshaping Shell’s operating model by integrating technical divisions into its businesses. This integration is part of Shell’s effort to streamline management layers, reduce costs, and sharpen accountability. The company continues to report results across six segments despite the leadership changes.
Under Sawan’s leadership, Shell is emphasizing simplification, performance, and returns. This shift comes as European oil and gas majors reassess organizational complexity amid volatile markets and investor pressure. Shell is slowing some renewables investments and refocusing on cash-generating assets.
Mooldijk’s departure does not involve the appointment of a direct replacement. Shell intends to permanently embed technical functions within its operating businesses rather than maintain a central technical leadership role. This move reflects the company’s focus on cost competitiveness and decision-making efficiency.
