Wing and Walmart are expanding their partnership to bring drone delivery to 150 more Walmart stores, fueled by customer demand. The top 25% of customers use the service three times a week, ordering items like eggs, ground beef, and avocados. Wing plans to operate from over 270 Walmart stores, serving 10% of the U.S. population.
The partnership firmly places Wing, a former Google X project, in the commercial enterprise category, with Walmart as its primary path to commercial operations. Wing first launched a pilot program with Walmart in 2023, which has now expanded to include 18 Walmart Supercenters in Dallas-Fort Worth and stores in Atlanta.
Wing is focused on evolving its technology and operations, recently completing commercial flights for larger aircraft. The company is exploring different approaches to scaling its operations, such as clustering store openings. Rivera, Wing’s new chief business officer, is tasked with scaling the business to as many stores and markets as possible for economic success.
