Physical attacks on cryptocurrency holders are increasing in frequency and severity, with a rise in reported wrench attacks over time. The data, analyzed by Jameson Lopp, shows a trend towards more violent attacks. Geographically, Europe and Asia are seeing a sharp increase in incidents, correlating with higher crypto market valuations.

However, despite the rise in violent incidents, when normalized by user growth, the risk of crypto ownership has not increased at the same pace. In fact, on a per-user or per-dollar basis, crypto was riskier in previous years. It is crucial for high-risk individuals to invest in personal security measures to protect themselves from potential attacks.

On the other hand, phishing attacks linked to wallet drainers saw a significant decrease in 2025, with losses totaling $83.85 million, down 83% from the previous year. The number of victims also declined by 68% to around 106,000. Despite the decrease, phishing activity remains tied to market cycles, with spikes during periods of high onchain activity.
