Elon Musk’s social media platform is introducing a “Smart Cashtags” feature next month, allowing users to monitor real-time price movements of cryptocurrencies and stocks. The feature will also include in-app trading and access to smart contract information. X aims to be a top source for financial news, gathering feedback before the official release in February.
After initially launching and later removing a Cashtags feature displaying Bitcoin and Ether prices, X is planning to introduce “Smart Cashtags” with added functionality like “Buy” and “Sell” buttons. The platform has obtained money transmitter licenses in 25 US states but has not confirmed when payments, including crypto-based, will be enabled. X has not responded to requests for comment.
Recent rumors accuse X of suppressing legitimate crypto content while allowing spam to flood user feeds. Despite the backlash, X’s head of product dismissed the criticisms as a myth. Elon Musk plans to make X’s recommendation algorithm open-source in the near future. The platform’s integration of finance aligns with Musk’s vision to transform X into an Everything App.
