xAI, founded by Elon Musk, is investing over $20 billion in a new data center in Southaven, Mississippi. Operations are set to begin in February 2026, increasing xAI’s computing capacity to nearly 2 gigawatts. The project will create hundreds of permanent jobs and generate tax revenue for public services.
The data center, named macrohardrr, will be located near xAI’s power plant site in Southaven and an existing data center in Tennessee. The investment has been approved for tax incentives by the Mississippi Development Authority, with additional support from the City of Southaven and DeSoto County through fee-in-lieu agreements.
Founded in 2023 and based in Silicon Valley, xAI specializes in advanced artificial intelligence technologies such as its flagship generative AI chatbot Grok. The company’s expansion in Southaven is expected to have a significant economic impact on the region.
