A $50 million settlement over a 23andMe customer data security breach in October 2023 will result in payouts to millions of customers, with claims due by Feb. 17. Eligible customers could receive up to $10,000, with the last day to file a settlement claim form approaching fast.

The breach involved personal information of 6.4 million U.S. residents, leading to a class action settlement. 23andMe, now rebranded as “Chrome” after filing for bankruptcy, has denied any wrongdoing but agreed to settle. Customers between May 1, 2023, and Oct. 1, 2023, are considered settlement class members and may be eligible for cash payments and other benefits.

To qualify for benefits, customers must have received notice from 23andMe about their compromised information and submit claims by the deadline. The settlement website provides more information on how to file a claim and what benefits may be available, including potential payouts of up to $10,000 for extraordinary claims.
