Amazon Prime members in the US received 8 billion items on the same day or next day last year, a 30% increase from 2024. Globally, 13 billion items were received in less than two days, with half in the US being groceries or household essentials. Members saved an average of $550 on shipping costs.

Amazon invested $4 billion to expand same-day and next-day delivery to 4,000 smaller cities, towns, and rural communities. The company plans to close Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go stores to focus on delivery services and expanding Whole Foods. Amazon continues to invest in faster delivery to compete with Walmart’s delivery network.

Amazon expanded its same-day delivery for perishable goods to over 5,000 US cities, delivering 70% more items in less than a day in 2025. The company also expanded its same-day delivery network for its pharmacy business, acquiring PillPack in 2018. AI has helped increase delivery speeds, cutting processing time by 90% in the pharmacy segment.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy is excited about delivering more perishable groceries, noting strong adoption rates in initial markets. The company is focused on convenience, savings, and entertainment for Prime members, with convenience being a top priority as expectations rise.
