Taiwan solidifies its status as an AI and semiconductor hub with Nvidia Corp.’s plans for a new major headquarters in Taipei’s Beitou-Shilin Technology Park. The deal includes a 50-year lease, royalties of 12.2 billion New Taiwanese dollars, and the creation of over 10,000 jobs.
The Taipei City Government confirms the agreement and expects construction to commence in June or July. Nvidia’s headquarters project is estimated to cost over 40 billion New Taiwanese dollars (~$1.3 billion) and will boost job opportunities in the region.
Nvidia’s CEO is expected to visit Taiwan for discussions with Taiwan Semiconductor, as Nvidia surpasses Apple as the largest customer for Taiwan Semiconductor. Analysts highlight the need for Nvidia to expand its local R&D team to manage AI server supply chain complexities.
Taiwan Semiconductor is diversifying beyond Taiwan, with plans to invest in multiple fabs in Arizona. The company is also speeding up construction timelines and securing permits for future facilities to meet growing AI-driven demand and reduce geopolitical risks.
