Schroders Greencoat, a renewable investment manager, is set to acquire a 283MWp solar PV portfolio from METLEN Energy & Metals. The portfolio includes seven projects in England and Scotland, with 143MW operational and 140MW under construction. Long-term agreements with companies like Vodafone and Engie will benefit approximately 89,333 homes.
This acquisition builds on the collaboration between Schroders Greencoat and METLEN, following a previous acquisition of a 110MW UK solar portfolio. The new projects will include three solar assets in different UK locations. Portfolio manager Duncan Hale sees this as a significant step towards supporting the UK’s low-carbon future and providing stable returns for UK pension savers.
METLEN, a key player in the UK energy market, focuses on advancing the nation’s energy transition through solar energy, BESS, flexible generation, and grid infrastructure. Akereos Capital provided financial advisory services for the transaction, while legal advice was given by Pinsent Masons, Walker Morris, and Harper Macleod.
METLEN’s renewables and energy transition platform CEO Nikos Papapetrou sees this transaction as a strategic step in their global asset rotation strategy. The successful collaboration with Schroders Greencoat highlights the value of well-structured projects attracting high-quality institutional investors.
In May 2025, METLEN signed contracts for five solar parks and one BESS in the UK, with a total capacity of 313.4MW. The deal represents another milestone in METLEN’s successful energy transition strategy, showcasing the value of strong partnerships in the renewable energy sector.
