Chapter, a Medicare advisory startup cofounded by Vivek Ramaswamy, raised $75 million in Series D funding, reaching a valuation of $1.5 billion. The platform aims to help seniors navigate the Medicare system and choose health plans, prescription coverage, doctors, and hospitals, providing transparency and trust in a complex ecosystem.
Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur, previously advised President Trump and ran for office. Although he helped found Chapter in 2020, he stepped down from the board during his political pursuits and is no longer involved with the company. The startup focuses on offering unbiased Medicare guidance to all Americans amid ongoing regulatory changes.
Chapter has ties to the Trump administration through Vice President JD Vance and Peter Thiel. Narya Capital, founded by Vance, led the startup’s Series A funding, with Thiel investing and holding a board seat at one point. However, Blumenfeld-Gantz clarified that Vance has no current involvement with Chapter, emphasizing the company’s commitment to consumer-first guidance.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), home to Medicare, faces significant changes under the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), with staff layoffs impacting operations. HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. plans to cut 300 jobs from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), which oversees healthcare programs for over 160 million Americans, amid efforts to downplay the effects of reductions on Medicare.
