Chipotle is expanding to Mexico in a new partnership with Alsea, aiming to open a location by early 2026. The move comes as the company looks to grow its international presence, already operating in Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Kuwait, and the UAE. Chipotle is set to report earnings on Wednesday.
The Mexican food chain sees Mexico as a promising market for its responsibly sourced, fresh ingredients. Chipotle’s partnership with Alsea follows an international development agreement signed in 2023 to open restaurants in the Middle East. Most of Chipotle’s revenue comes from its US operations, with over 3,600 domestic locations.
Chipotle’s move into Mexico comes after lower-than-expected fourth-quarter same-store sales growth reported earlier this year. The company’s shares have declined by more than 20% in 2026. The expansion into Mexico is part of Chipotle’s strategy to tap into new markets and drive growth beyond its traditional US base.
