Chipotle Mexican Grill is set to open its first location in Mexico early next year through a partnership with Alsea. Shares in Chipotle fell more than 3% after the news, while Alsea’s rose nearly 3%. Analysts warn of potential challenges in operating a U.S.-based Mexican chain in Mexico, citing Taco Bell’s failed attempts. Chipotle previously entered the Middle East market with Kuwait-based Alshaya Group. The move into Mexico follows concerns about President Trump’s tariffs and inflation impacting raw material costs. Alsea, which operates various chains, benefits from diversifying its portfolio with Chipotle. Chipotle plans to open between 315 and 345 new restaurants globally this year.
