Mack Trucks plans to lay off up to 450 workers at facilities in Pennsylvania and Maryland due to decreased demand for heavy-duty trucks. The job cuts will impact 250-350 employees in Pennsylvania and 50-100 in Maryland over the next few months. The company cited market uncertainty and tariffs as contributing factors.
The Lehigh Valley Operations center in Pennsylvania assembles Mack Trucks’ Class 8 trucks and employs 3,050 workers. The Powertrain Development and Production plant in Maryland produces diesel engines and employs 1,800 workers. Mack Trucks’ network includes facilities in Virginia and has been a subsidiary of Volvo Group since 2000.
President Donald Trump’s announcement of tariffs, including 25% on auto imports, has contributed to the layoffs at Mack Trucks. The company is aligning production with reduced demand for its vehicles, which are sold and serviced in nearly 30 countries. Subscribe to our newsletter for more manufacturing industry news.
