UK vehicle production rose in March, but Q1 figures decline: SMMT

UK car and commercial vehicle production increased by 17.1% in March to 79,018 units, driven by export demand and a 30.6% increase in car manufacturing. Electrified vehicle production also rose by 38.5%, accounting for 45% of total UK car output. Despite this, the first quarter saw an overall decline in production. The EU was the largest destination for UK car exports, with notable increases in exports to China and Turkey. Commercial vehicle production rose by 8.2%, but exports fell by 31.8%. Q1 2025 saw a 3.2% decline in car production overall, with uncertainty ahead in Q2 due to potential weakening US demand and new tariffs, according to SMMT.
