US Treasury’s OFAC can’t restore Tornado Cash sanctions, judge rules

A US federal court ruled that the Treasury Department cannot restore sanctions against crypto mixing service Tornado Cash, calling the original sanctions unlawful. The platform was accused of helping launder crypto stolen by the Lazarus Group. The court’s decision prevents OFAC from re-sanctioning Tornado Cash.
The DeFi Education Fund petitioned the White House to drop charges against Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm, who was charged with helping launder over $1 billion in crypto. The group argued that holding developers criminally liable for how others use their code sets a dangerous precedent for crypto development in the US.
