Microsoft will release third-quarter financial results on April 30, with analysts expecting earnings at $3.22 per share, up from $2.94 last year. The company projects revenue of $68.44 billion, compared to $61.86 billion a year earlier. Microsoft has beaten revenue estimates in eight straight quarters.

Investors eye Microsoft’s dividends, with an annual yield of 0.84% and a quarterly dividend of 83 cents per share. To earn $500 monthly, an investor would need approximately $712,030 worth of Microsoft, or 1,807 shares. A more conservative goal of $100 monthly would require 361 shares or $142,248.

Dividend yield is calculated by dividing the annual dividend payment by the current stock price. As stock prices fluctuate, dividend yields change. If a stock pays a $2 annual dividend and the price increases from $50 to $60, the yield drops from 4% to 3.33%. Conversely, a price drop to $40 would increase the yield to 5%.

Changes in dividend payments can also impact dividend yield. If a company increases its dividend, the yield rises even if the stock price remains the same. If a company decreases its dividend, the yield decreases. Microsoft’s stock price rose by 0.7% to close at $394.04 on Tuesday.
