Conifer, a startup in Silicon Valley, has developed a new electric motor that does not rely on rare earth minerals from China. Co-founders Ankit Somani and Yateendra Deshpande wanted to create affordable, easy-to-manufacture motors using iron-based magnets. The motors, known as axial flux motors, have the potential to be used in various applications, from electric scooters to HVAC systems. This technology could revolutionize the electric vehicle industry and reduce dependence on rare earth minerals. Other companies, like Lyra Energy, are already incorporating Conifer’s motors into their products to create high-end, efficient two-wheelers for the global market.
