Samsung is challenging a $520 million tax demand in India for allegedly misclassifying imports of networking gear. Volkswagen has also sued the Indian government for a record $1.4 billion for misclassifying component imports. The tax authorities asked Samsung to pay $520 million in January for evading tariffs. Samsung criticizes Indian authorities for being aware of the business model. The tax demand represents a substantial chunk of Samsung’s net profit in India last year.
