Digital asset manager Bitwise has filed to list a spot Near exchange-traded fund with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, tracking the NEAR token price movements. The proposed custodian is Coinbase Custody, but details on management fee, ticker, and stock exchange are pending. Bitwise must file a 19b-4 with the SEC for approval.

NEAR joins a list of a dozen spot crypto ETFs awaiting SEC approval, including Litecoin, Dogecoin, Solana, XRP, Cardano, and more. Bitwise already has applications for spot DOGE, SOL, and XRP ETFs, as well as approved Bitcoin and Ether ETFs with $2.35 billion in net inflows. NEAR is the 44th largest cryptocurrency with a $2.73 billion market cap.

The Near blockchain, powered by the NEAR token, was once considered an Ethereum killer due to its scalability and security features. Through Nightshade sharding, Near can process up to 100,000 transactions per second and is secured by 265 active validators. The ecosystem transitioned from DeFi to AI infrastructure, planning to build the world’s largest open-source AI model.
