OpenAI is set to acquire Windsurf, an AI-assisted coding tool, for about $3 billion. This marks OpenAI’s largest acquisition and could help them compete in the AI-driven coding assistant market. Windsurf, previously known as Codeium, was valued at $1.25 billion last year and had been in talks with investors for a $3 billion valuation. OpenAI’s rivals, Anthropic and Github, also offer AI tools for programmers. OpenAI recently secured a $40 billion financing led by SoftBank Group Corp. Despite facing public pushback, they are not moving forward with plans to restructure as a for-profit business.
