Several crypto-focused organizations, including Bitcoin mining companies, are considering a return to the US due to geopolitical tensions. Hive Digital Technologies is focusing on the Latin American market, particularly in Paraguay, for its stability and low-cost hydro energy.
Hive acquired Bitfarms’ 200 MW Yguazú facility in Paraguay for $56 million in January. They completed phase one infrastructure for a 100 MW data center in April, supporting five EH/s of ASIC mining. Hive plans to expand to 300 MW by 2025 and increase hashrate to 25 EH/s by September.
Despite a proposed ban on crypto mining in Paraguay, Hive is working with policymakers to support clear legislation. They are investing in local hiring, training programs, and vendor partnerships to create a stable ecosystem while boosting efficiency.
Hive is diversifying globally with data centers in Canada, Sweden, and Paraguay. The company is moving its headquarters to San Antonio, Texas, to create a balanced footprint resilient to geopolitical risks and trade policy shocks.
To ensure scaling to 25 EH/s, Hive has secured key ASIC orders, power access through agreements, and expanded engineering capacity. They are focused on controlling expenses like opex, power costs, and machine uptime to maximize energy efficiency and profitability in Bitcoin mining.
