The Australian market turned early losses into slight gains on Thursday, following positive cues from Wall Street. The S&P/ASX 200 is just below the 8,200 level, with gains in gold miners and tech stocks offsetting weakness in financial stocks. The index is up 0.15% to 8,190.50, while the All Ordinaries Index gained 0.25% to 8,420.60. Rio Tinto is up almost 1%, while BHP Group is down 0.1% and Fortescue Metals is down almost 1%. Oil stocks are mixed, with Santos and Woodside Energy down, and Origin Energy and Beach Energy up. In the tech sector, Afterpay and WiseTech Global are up almost 3% each. Commonwealth Bank is down almost 1%, Westpac is down 4.5%, ANZ Banking is down over 3%, and National Australia Bank is up over 1%. Among gold miners, Northern Star Resources is up almost 3%, Gold Road Resources is up 0.5%, Newmont is up almost 2%, Evolution Mining is up over 3%, and Resolute Mining is up over 4%. The Aussie dollar is trading at $0.646.
