Layoffs at BNSF Railway tech staff as part of restructuring efforts

BNSF Railway has laid off a portion of its technology services staff as part of a departmental restructuring effort. While specific numbers were not disclosed, it is believed that between 140 and 175 workers were affected. The Fort Worth-based carrier is creating a new division called “bnsf | tech” to innovate rail operations. The company mentioned that some Technology Services positions are being repurposed or eliminated. BNSF is committed to supporting affected employees with resources and career transition services. The layoffs come amidst financial challenges and the ongoing U.S. tariff war with China. This is not the first significant workforce reduction for BNSF.
