Roche plans to invest over $700m in a new production facility in Holly Springs, NC, to support next-gen obesity drugs. The site will create 400+ jobs and could see increased investment based on business needs. This move aligns with Roche’s $50bn commitment to create 12,000 new jobs in the US.

Pharma companies like Novartis, Eli Lilly, and J&J are also investing billions in US manufacturing. This trend reflects uncertainty in international supply chains and pressure to localize production. President Trump’s administration is considering tariffs on pharmaceutical imports to address rising drug prices.

Roche is not only expanding in the US but also globally, with a $282m investment in a new production site in Shanghai for its eye drug Vabysmo. CEO Thomas Schinecker highlights the importance of domestic production for market access in key countries. This strategic expansion aims to meet regulatory requirements and enhance global competitiveness.
