Tesco may not achieve its 300% growth target for plant-based meat as sales slow, casting doubt on the goal set in 2020 to lower the environmental impact of UK shopping baskets. Plant-based meat sales increased 130% by 2021 but growth slowed to 94% by 2024, falling short of expectations. Other plant-based products saw an uptick in sales, with veg-led dishes representing 40% of all plant-based sales. Quorn and Beyond Meat faced challenges amid the category slowdown, with Quorn expected to recognize another impairment charge and undergoing restructuring to right-size the business. Beyond Meat also cut its guidance due to continuing losses and raised $100m from an external investor to support cash flow.
