Japan’s Dai-ichi Life plans to increase its stake in Capula Investment Management to 15%, aiming to enhance its non-traditional asset management capabilities. Capula, founded in 2005, manages $31.8bn in assets and has a strong track record, with an 8.29% annual return on its fixed-income arbitrage fund since inception.

The Tokyo-based insurer’s move to acquire a larger share in Capula aligns with its strategy to pursue inorganic growth in asset management. Dai-ichi Life anticipates generating approximately $34m in equity income from the stake acquisition by FY2025, as it aims to achieve a group corporate value of $90bn by 2030.

Capula, with offices in London, Japan, US, Hong Kong, and Singapore, will become an equity-method affiliate of Dai-ichi Life once the deal closes in May. A board member from Dai-ichi Life will join Capula as part of the transaction, strengthening the partnership between the two firms in the alternative asset management space.
