Nexans and Swissgrid will install a high-voltage line in the Saint-Gothard highway tunnel, a pioneering project in Europe. The 18km line will replace the current overhead line by 2030, playing a key role in electricity transport in Switzerland. Swissgrid, mandated by the Confederation, evaluates projects for potential infrastructure synergies. Nexans will supply 57km of very high voltage cables for this operation. The project, valued at around 50 million euros, is Nexans Switzerland’s largest contract ever. Once completed, the current overhead installation at Saint-Gothard will be dismantled, reducing visual and environmental impact.
