Heartland Express recorded another quarter of losses, prompting an outside review by Morgan Stanley. Despite the losses, the investment firm kept an equal weight rating on Heartland’s stock. CEO Mike Gerdin announced plans to shrink the fleet to match freight demand and cut costs for efficiency. Morgan Stanley questioned the timing of this decision, citing a potential rebound in the second half of the year. The firm also mentioned the risk of a “2Q air pocket” due to tariffs. Despite maintaining the rating, Morgan Stanley lowered its earnings forecast for Heartland. The stock closed at $8.91 on Tuesday.
